It is fair to say the Tottenham fans in the Transfer Tavern are not best pleased by recent reports that Ross Barkley looks set to join Chelsea this month.
After Barkley pulled out of a potential move to Chelsea at the 11th-hour last summer, it appeared as if the Evertonian had his heart set on a move to London-rivals Tottenham Hotspur. However, that notion seems to have been disproved this morning, as Barkley is partaking in a medical today ahead of a move to Chelsea, according to reports in The Sun.
The report claims that Barkley is set to move to West London in a deal worth £15 million after Tottenham withdrew their interest because of concerns over his wage demands.
And judging by the reaction on Twitter, the Tottenham fans are desperately disappointed to have missed out on his signature to their fierce London-rivals.
Barkley is yet to play a single minute of competitive football this season due to a severe hamstring injury he picked up in the summer, but the potential he has shown during previous seasons does suggest he could become a fantastic player in the English top-flight.
Daniel Levy’s strict wage structure has regularly been a topic for discussion amongst supporters clad in Tottenham white, and the latest story concerning Barkley’s future has encouraged plenty of his critics to come out of the woodwork and have their say.
Here’s what the Lilywhites had to say about the breaking news on Twitter…

And if Barkley completes his move to Chelsea today then Levy has one again failed Pochettino. Clear since the summer Poch really wanted him. Eriksen needs comptition badly. Awful again yesterday #THFC

If the rumours of Barkley pricing himself out of a move to us are true, then he’s a fool. If it’s Levy not wanting to pay £15m, then he’s a bigger fool. He’s perfect for us and vice versa. #thfc

@SpursOfficial paid £13m for 32 years old Llorente and why arenot they willing to pay £15m for 24 years Barkley who has great potential?

Spurs fail to back their manager again. Are you surprised?

Barkley wage demands are no shock, that’s half the point of letting your contract expire
Levy – the king of contract renewals must have known this since day 1, he was never paying

If Levy has backed out the Barkley interest being to close to the end of contract you can forget about Mahrez he won’t pay
