As one of our punters notes over a pint, the player in question is Raheem Sterling who may have plenty of time left to run on his current deal but is also being heavily linked to Real Madrid.
We think that in order to not only secure his future at the club but also for the Reds to protect themselves in case of an exit, a new deal simply has to be signed.
Sterling has suffered from fatigue this season and also the fact that Liverpool have not had an out-and-out forward who has been fit and scoring.
However after his return against Chelsea in midweek, we saw the talent that thrilled all the fans sat in the Kop last season and at the start of this one, and know exactly why Real Madrid are so keen on the England international.
Sterling has rejected a second offer from the Reds but we think that eventually he will sign – when the right amount of cash is offered of course!
