Everton are seeking to resurrect a move for Arsenal’s Philippe Senderos according to a report in The Times. David Moyes was interested in Senderos over the summer as a replacement for Joleon Lescott but decided against a move on account of the fee. Senderos would now be available for loan and as he in the last year of his contract a free transfer at the end of the season is also a possibility.
Senderos has only been limited to cup appearances for Arsenal this season and has no future in the first-team. He is unlikely to be offered a new deal and the arrival of Sol Campbell as well as the presence of Mikael Silvestre makes his position at the club even more peripheral.
Everton are looking for a centre-back after Lucas Neill’s surprise move to Turkey and with Joseph Yobo away at the African Nations Cup and Jagielka still injured, they are short of players in the centre of defence. Moyes is interested in bringing the Swiss defender to Merseyside on loan for the rest of the season before making a decision on whether to offer a full-time contract in the summer.
Senderos claim to have options in terms of his future; he seems certain to move in this transfer window but there is reportedly interest from a number of German and Italian sides as well as Everton. Celtic have also enquired about his availability as Tony Mowbray seeks to restructure his squad. Senderos has hinted that he would prefer to stay in the Premier League which would put Everton in poll position but an offer from one of the bigger Italian sides may still sway him.

I think this would be a good load signing for Everton. We could do with some cover until Jagielka is back to fitness. I don’t think it would ever be a permanant move though because I just don’t think Senderos is good enough to be a regular starter for us. And Moyes doesn’t buy bench players.
