Serge Aurier scored a brilliant goal for Tottenham on Sunday but it wasn’t enough to prevent a defeat to Wolves, with the game ending 3-2.
The right-back has come under significant criticism at times this season but he has done well to brush that off and maintain his place in the team under Jose Mourinho.
A key reason why he is consistently picked is likely because of his effectiveness going forward, as the Cote d’Ivoire international has scored goals and created them this term.
Aurier has four league assists to boast of, the fourth-highest number achieved by a defender in the Premier League (per WhoScored), and he has also found the back of the net twice in all competitions.
That has helped him to convince some fans of his ability, and many supporters were full of praise after he found the target.
However, he still has work to do if he is to convince everyone, as he is still being caught out at the back on occasion, with Spurs looking far from their best defensively against Wolves.
POTS by a mile

He’s a difficult one. For 80 minutes of any game he plays I think he’s one of our better players. It’s just all the errors he makes across 10 minutes of every game. Not tracking back, wayward passes, weak defensive moments. Still working out how I feel about him

He’s half decent in the final third, but as a Defender he’s a liability.

He has become the most important player in the team. All attacks start down the right and end up with Aurier supplying the ball in

Serge is such a key player

Consistent? he’s either world class or he defends like a striker…

Do you think Aurier has been one of Spurs’ best players this season or does he still have a long way to go to prove that Mourinho doesn’t need to sign a new right-back?
