AC Milan are putting together a package in an attempt to entice Pep Guardiola to the San Siro in 2021, according to Mundo Deportivo.
This news comes despite the recent appointment of Stefano Pioli, with the hope being that they will be able to snap up the Spaniard, who has won two Champions Leagues as a manager, as per Transfermarkt.
Their back up option to Guardiola is Andriy Shevchenko, who represented Milan 332 times as a player and recently led Ukraine to Euro 2020 qualification as manager.
Milan are also targeting Marc Overmars to become their Director of Football, though his contract with Ajax doesn’t come to an end until 2024.
Pioli is the ninth manager Milan have had since Massimiliano Allegri left in 2014, while he is also the second manager they have had this season, after Marco Giampaolo lasted just 111 days – in that time the club have won one Italian Super Cup.
Meanwhile, Guardiola has won eight trophies between his time with Manchester City and Bayern Munich, including four league titles.
If Milan were able to get Guardiola to the club, it would be a massive coup, when the lack of success they have had in recent years is considered.
There is a strong desire to get Milan close to their glory days, so recruiting a manager of Guardiola’s calibre would likely be the best way of going about this.
