Speaking of the Spaniard, Pioli said: “Suso is a player of indisputable quality, we have to get him into so many one-on-one situations. He can do very well.”
This gives the indication that the 25-year-old will be utilised a lot by his new manager throughout his tenure at Milan.
Having signed from Liverpool for just £1m in 2015, Suso has gone on to become an important player for Milan, playing a total of 143 games, scoring 23 goals and assisting 35 more, as per Transfermarkt.
He hasn’t been at his most productive this season, getting 1 assist in 7 Serie A starts, though even then he has averaged 2.3 key passes and 1.7 dribbles per game, while he has also completed 84.6% of all attempted passes, as per WhoScored.
This indicates that if Pioli is able to help work out a way for the forward line to operate with greater efficiency, this directness and creativity should be able to bring a greater level of end product.
Pioli is correct to put the focus on Suso, as even when he isn’t getting the goals and assists, his aforementioned numbers are showing that he has the potential to be a difference-maker for the team.
With Milan not having a game until the 20th, Pioli will have time to work on the training pitch to ensure he can get the most out of the Spaniard and his attacking teammates.
