Internazionale have been hit with an injury blow over the international break, as Alexis Sanchez picked up what is suspected to be a sprained ankle during Chile’s friendly against Colombia, as per Calciomercato.
The 30-year-old was brought off in the 88th minute of the 0-0 draw having picked up the injury, as per SofaScore, though the amount of time he is expected to be out for has not yet been distinguished.
So far this season, Sanchez has started 2 games across Serie A and the Champions League, coming on as a substitute on 2 other occasions, scoring 1 goal and getting 1 assist, as per WhoScored – his assist came in the 2-1 loss against Barcelona.
He also showed what a threat he can be in general play during that Barcelona match, making 2 key passes and 1 dribble, while maintaining a pass completion rate of 85.7%.
The timing seems considerably cruel when it is taken into account that the Chilean’s goal contributions came in his two most recent matches.
This is a definite blow for Inter and Sanchez, as the 30-year-old was beginning to come into his own at the San Siro.
The hope now will be that the injury isn’t serious and he is able to recover quickly, so that he can maintain some of the momentum that he has built up in recent weeks.
