Celtic have dominated Scotland for the past six seasons and they are only improving under new gaffer Brendan Rodgers.

But our landlord here at the Transfer Tavern can see one down-side to their mass success.. What is that you ask?

It is the fact they seem to be rather quick to sell off their best players year on year for a quick profit.

Sure there isn’t as much money in Scottish football and the club simply have to make a good profit in order to continue to improve, but is it really an improvement to bring in players that simply haven’t improved the team as a whole?

You only really have to take a look at some of the players that have left Celtic Park and headed off to England or elsewhere and have shown just how good they are, and what the Bhoys have missed out on.

If you could put together a starting eleven of past Celtic players even in just the last seven years, it would be deadly!

With all that on our mind here at the bar, it got us thinking about some the players that they sold far too quickly without thought of what potential they had.

It makes us seriously think why did Celtic sell these players so quickly?

VIRGIL VAN DIJK

We have all seen what this guy has done since moving to Southampton – the Dutch international has been one of the stand out centre-backs in the league, and is always linked with a big money move in the summer to a number of top clubs.

Just imagine if they’d of held on to him a little longer and the impression he could of made under Rodgers.
