Promotion from the Championship is the goal for Leeds United, and nothing else will do. They’ve been stuck in the second-flight for too long, and for a club of their stature, they deserve to be in a much better position.
However, it hasn’t gone all that well lately.
They’ve struggled a little in recent weeks, and a big loss to West Brom over the weekend was one of their worst results of the season so far.
It highlights that promotion is going to be anything but a cakewalk, and heading into the new year, it could get even worse for the club.
They’ve got a number of games coming up that could play a key part in determining their chances of sealing promotion, and in the wider context of the season, they’ll want to impress. It’s not just that losing two games and losing six points will cost them a promotion push, of course not. That would be a silly thing to say.
However, a lot of weight can be put on certain performances having a crucial role in the season. One big win can change everything, whilst a major loss can put a team on a downward spiral.
With that said, if Leeds don’t win these 2 games, they can kiss promotion goodbye…
Aston Villa (26/12)
Aston Villa haven’t had a particularly great season. They’re sat in 11th place, and given that they’re expecting to challenge for promotion to the Premier League every year, that’s not good enough.
However, that doesn’t mean that they’ll be an easy side to face.
The Villains have some tremendous players, namely Jack Grealish, and so at any point they’re capable of dismantling any team in the Championship.
Villa have been able to record some big wins against some big sides already this season, namely Derby County, and Leeds could be next. They’re a side on the up.
A win, however, would offer a much-needed boost.
Sheffield United (1/12)
There’s nothing quite like a derby, and Sheffield United and Leeds United’s rivalry is a pretty historic one.
Many big games have taken place between the two clubs over the years, and often the fixtures have huge impacts on the season more broadly. They’ve both achieved a lot of success, and so games are always competitive.
This game holds more significance than most, as the Championship is tighter than ever.
In fact, Sheffield United are breathing down the necks of Leeds, with both sat on 30 points this season. So, when they come face to face on the 1st of December, the implications of the result could be huge.
However, a loss could see them lose pace on their rivals in the Championship.
