Sheffield United Transfer Rumours

Sheffield United Transfer Rumours

One of the major success stories of English football in recent years, Sheffield United’s status as one of the most competent sides in the Premier League will surely see their transfer rumours go into overdrive over the course of the summer.

Chris Wilder has shaped a wonderful team during his time in charge at Bramall Lane but the January signing of Sander Berge could well have marked a change. Indeed, the Blades shelled out over £20m for a player and, with European football a realistic possibility, surely more additions of that kind of calibre are likely.

So, with the Yorkshire outfit now major players amongst the elite on these shores, the Football Transfer Tavern have you covered when it comes to breaking news, the latest gossip and fans reactions.

Sheffield United Transfer Records

While no one has come close to the kind of money Berge took to bring to Sheffield United, Wilder did manage to break his record signing a number of times over the course of the summer to get ready for the Premier League.

Luke Freeman was the first to break it this summer after his £5m move from QPR, then an £11m move for Preston’s Callum Robinson took the mantle, before £10m Lys Mousset and £17m Oli McBurnie added firepower to their squad.

For years before that, the 2007 move for James Beattie – which set the club back £4m – stood as their record. How times change, right?

Famous Sheffield United Transfers

Perhaps the most famous transfer story involving the Blades is in regards to a deal that never actually happened. After all, how many sides can seriously say they were very close to signing Diego Maradona?

Back in the late 1970s, former chairman Harry Haslam arranged a £200k deal to bring him to England after being impressed while watching him in Argentina though the club then refused to add more money into the deal on top of that fee. As you can imagine, it’s probably safe to say they regret that.

In terms of deals that did actually happen, the recent moves Wilder has approved for players currently leading their journey up the Premier League will surely go down in history. Indeed, the likes of Enda Stevens, John Egan, David McGoldrick and John Lundstram may not have hit headlines following their understated arrivals but have proven excellent additions at the highest level.

Biggest Sheffield United Stories

Obviously, this is unknown territory for the Blades so it’ll be hugely interesting to see exactly who they’re linked with. Wilder clearly has his style of playing and, with more funds available as well as potential European competition on the cards, adding to that may prove challenging. Still, everything about his work thus far suggests he can rise to any challenge, so these must be exciting times for all those involved.

With that in mind, make sure to keep up to date with Sheffield United’s transfer rumours page on the Football Transfer Tavern as it all unfolds.
