Sheffield Wednesday defender Tom Lees has been shortlisted for the PFA Bristol Street Motors Championship Player of the Month award for December (via @swfc).
The centre-back is up against a strong field in the race for the award, with Andre Ayew, Luke Ayling, Sam Johnstone, Lee Tomlin and Jed Wallace also in contention.
Lees was an ever-present for the Owls in December, starting in all six of their Championship games against Brentford, Derby County, Nottingham Forest, Bristol City, Stoke City and Cardiff City respectively (Transfermarkt).
In that time he helped the South Yorkshire side to two clean sheets, whilst also getting on the scoresheet in two games as well (Transfermarkt).
However, quite a few Sheffield Wednesday fans are surprised that the 29-year-old’s name is on the shortlist, perhaps due to the fact that at the end of the month he was part of a defence which conceded five goals in just two games (Transfermarkt).
Here is what some had to say about it on Twitter…
I find this truly astonishing, they have based this on the Bristol city game where he was solid, apart from that every games he’s played in since majority of goals have been his fault.

Strange

Is this a joke?

Why? Because he scored two goals? His jobs to defend them, not score them. That’s an incredible nomination and I mean that with respect to Tom.
