Sheffield Wednesday fans were left questioning why Garry Monk has not been playing Fernando Forestieri on Twitter following their encounter with Championship leaders West Bromwich Albion on Saturday afternoon.
The Owls were on the wrong end of a 2-1 result against the Baggies at The Hawthorns in what proved to be a rather eventful game on the pitch (BBC).
A penalty to each side was awarded, with both being converted, whilst the Hillsborough outfit saw themselves reduced to ten men in the final moments of the fixture when Liam Palmer was shown a straight red card.
Whilst the defeat put a dent in Sheffield Wednesday’s aspirations for promotion, many of the club’s faithful took to social media following the conclusion of the game to ask why Forestieri had not been selected or even been brought onto the field of play.
Indeed, the 29-year-old has been having a rather difficult campaign so far as he has been forced to watch on from the outside.
Of course, the Argentine-Italian was hit with a six-game ban at the beginning of the season, however since then, he has featured in just seven Championship matches for Monk, in which he has started just one game (per TransferMarkt).
Forestieri did manage to score a goal against Swansea City prior to the international break, although it does not appear to have given his manager any further desire to include him from the off.
Here are what just some fans were saying after his latest omission…
Absolutely gutted for our owls players today. They played well, came back fighting in second half. @GarryMonk needs to start with Forestieri on pitch we need his magic on there & hes clearly one of our best players! @Forestieri45 @swfc #swfcLIVE #swfc https://t.co/8xnVLRcfI7

Monk’s team selection was poor today however, we went toe-to-toe once again with one of the best teams in the league and were let down by 1. Westwood and 2. Our inability to take chances. Reach, Dawson and Forestieri have to play.

To get in the top six, we have to play like a top six team. Blowing games in the last few minutes on a regular basis ain’t top 6 form. Playing one upfront ain’t gunna get many goal to compete for top six imo. Same old Wednesday.
What has Forestieri gotta do to get a game??— Dave Wawaw (@WawawDave) November 23, 2019
Forestieri still doesn’t get game time??? We can’t take chances and aren’t winning despite the performances being good…. goals win games!! FORESTIERI has to start V Birmingham #wawaw #swfc @swfc

We attack with great football, have the momentum, then mess around and hold the ball back.
Why wasn’t @Forestieri45 played?
Monk needs to start listening to the fans! When they sing Forestieri, we need him on!! #swfc— Richard Taylor (@richtremix) November 23, 2019
How about playing our best player Gary..crazy idea I know but might just work #swfc #forestieri

We knew this run of games against the top few would tell us a lot about where we are. Haven’t won any so can’t really have any arguments. I do like Monk, it just will never sit right with me not using someone like Forestieri. Get him out there, it’s a sad waste not to. #swfc

How Forestieri doesn’t get in is laughable. We create chances every match and don’t put them away. We have 2 striker that he actually plays who simply DO NOT score. I like Fletcher and Nuhiu and think they bring a lot to the team but do not score enough.
