To celebrate Marco Matias’ 31st birthday, the official Sheffield Wednesday Twitter page has posted a clip of his wonder goal against Leeds in 2015, but fans are divided on their opinions of him.
The midfielder joined the Wednesday ranks back in 2015 for an undisclosed fee, after spending time with second-tier Portuguese side CD Nacional (via SWFC). During his four years with the club, Matias made 72 appearances and notched 11 goals and seven assists (via Transfermarkt). He has since moved on and now plays for Belenenses SAD in Liga Nos.

The goal in question was his stunner against Leeds United not long after he joined Sheffield Wednesday. Matias chipped his defender and shifted onto his left foot to take the shot which curved beautifully into the back of the net.
Many Owls fans responded to the birthday post but there’s a mixed bag of opinions in the comments. One fan has described his goal as ‘absolutely sensational’, but another supporter feels Matias was a ‘disastrous expensive recruitment’. Check out some of the reactions below:

The only bit of quality during his #swfc career – yet another piece of disastrous expensive recruitment to add to the full back catalogue

This goal was pure class and shows the potential he had. Sadly I don’t remember him doing much else in three or four years with #swfc
