Many Sheffield Wednesday fans have reacted to a club tweet remembering the League Cup final against Manchester United in 1991.
The Owls had not won an honour since 1935 when they sealed FA Cup success, but they performed superbly well against United in a game that ended 1-0 to Ron Atkinson’s side.
The likes of David Hirst, John Sheridan and Roland Nilsson were involved for Wednesday, whilst United boasted plenty of experienced and talented players such as Bryan Robson, Paul Ince, Mark Hughes and Lee Sharpe.
77,612 people attended the game at Wembley stadium and they saw Sheridan’s 35th minute strike determine the winners.
The win for Wednesday would put an end to their long wait for a title, whilst it was also their first appearance at Wembley in 25 years.
Reacting to the tweet via the club’s official Twitter account, fans remembered the tie and in particular, the performance of captain Nigel Pearson, who was officially named man of the match.
