Sheffield Wednesday fans were left waxing lyrical over Dominic Iorfa’s performance on Twitter on Saturday evening after witnessing the centre-back help them to a 2-1 victory over Brentford.
The Owls had initially gone a goal behind in the first half when Bryan Mbeumo opened the scoring for the Bees, however a second-half four-minute double salvo from Steven Fletcher got Garry Monk’s side all three points and lifted them into the Championship play-off spot (BBC).
Whilst the Scottish forward’s goals would have likely earned him the plaudits, a number of fans had noticed Iorfa’s display, with many feeling he had a game to be remembered and one that deserved a special mention.
Indeed, the 24-year-old produced a solid defensive display for the Hillsborough outfit, with WhoScored showing some impressive numbers.
The centre-back may have only managed to make one tackle, however he also achieved two interceptions, blocked two Brentford shots and made four clearances to keep the ball from troubling Cameron Dawson in between the sticks (WhoScored).
Fans gushed over his solid outing on Twitter following the match, with one even going as far as to compare Iorfa to a certain Paul Warhurst – a man who will have created some fond memories for those in the Hillsborough stands.
Here are what just some of the Sheffield Wednesday faithful were saying on the social media outlet…
– 1st time we have come from behind to win in 2.5 years. That says a lot.
– Iorfa is immense. Reminds me of Warhurst.
– goalkeeping for the pen
– best I have seen Rhodes play since he signed for us.
– Dawson played well. His distribution is so much better than Westwood’s#swfc https://t.co/xqMwVQHl4s— Rich W (@Rich_for_peru) December 7, 2019
Iorfa you were very elegant today (again) We need you

I know it’s early, VERY early but Iorfa must be miles agead for Player of Season already. No matter what the result, he is always worth the price of admission and a real jewel. We haven’t had a player with such quality and actual potential in such a long time.

Iorfa was excellent and has proved me wrong. Similarly Fox. But other than Borner who should surely always be in the team, we finished with the side we should have started with. Not happy with the team selection. But I loved the win!!

Dominic Iorfa has too be the most underrated cb in the league by a mile

He looked mega today tbf. Nuhiu looked a bit off pace compared to V Charlton so it was a breath of fresh air 2nd half.
Fox, Iorfa and Hutch, however, were different gravy. 10/10 performances from them both today.
