Sheffield Wednesday: Fans look back at former PL defender’s time at the club

Plenty of Sheffield Wednesday fans have looked back on Dejan Stefanovic’s time at the club, where he featured during their time in the Premier League, following a tweet from Owlstalk.

The postponement of football due to the recent pandemic has seen football fans engage over social media, looking back at a number of former players in the process.

Sheffield Wednesday fans have had little shout about since the turn of 2020, seeing their side drop out of the play-off places and sink to 15th in the Championship league table.

It is now increasingly unlikely that the Owls will claim promotion or a play-off place, and some fans have looked back the club’s former Premier League spell for comfort.

Looking back over the 1995/1996 season, Wednesday fans remembered Stefanovic, who arrived at the club from Red Star Belgrade. The Serbian defender would spend four seasons at Hillsborough, racking up 65 appearances (Transfermarkt) before he would move to Dutch side Vitesse.

Spending four seasons in the Dutch league, Stefanovic would return to England for spells with Portsmouth, Fulham and Norwich City, before eventually retiring from the game in 2009.

Looking back on his time with Wednesday, fans issued a response to an image of Stefanovic via Twitter account @Owlstalk.
