Yesterday saw it all kick off at the New York Stadium when Rotherham took on Sheffield Wednesday. The Yorkshire derby took a number of twists and turns, with Wednesday going 1-0 before finding themselves 2-1 down, eventually equalising in the 10th minute of added time. However, in the aftermath of their equaliser, the Owls fumed at the referee.

With almost every single Sheffield Wednesday player on the pitch running towards the travelling fans in celebration, the referee strangle decided to pick on the 29-year-old Fernando Forestieri to pull to one side and caution. It could have been any of the Owls’ ten outfield players, yet he picked the scorer of their first goal, who was conveniently already on a booking at the time.
His first booking came for a challenge in the 4th minute of stoppage time at the end of the half, and on replay, it seems that the yellow was incredibly harsh. The sending off was first of the season for Wednesday’s star man, meaning that he’ll now have to serve a one-game ban, and that couldn’t be more frustrating when you consider that neither of his two bookings should have been given.
