Sheffield Wednesday: Fans want to see Julian Borner from the start in future

Some Sheffield Wednesday fans have demanded that Garry Monk starts playing Julian Borner from the beginning in future after witnessing their side succumb to a 2-1 defeat to Cardiff City on Sunday afternoon.

The Owls found themselves two goals down almost immediately after kick-off when Robert Glatzel and Junior Hoilett netted within the first ten minutes of the game, however Tom Lees’ effort would have given the hosts the hope that they could get back into the match with his 18th-minute effort.

However, that was clearly not the case and many of the Sheffield Wednesday faithful appear to believe that the club may have been able to get something from the fixture if Monk had decided to use Borner from the beginning.

Indeed, the 28-year-old has been a solid presence at the back for the Hillsborough outfit when playing at the back, as he has managed to achieve an average of 0.9 tackles, 1.3 interceptions and a mammoth 3.7 clearances in his 19 Championship appearances to date (as per WhoScored).

Therefore, it is hardly surprising that so many of the Owls’ faithful were demanding Monk put the German in from the start and want to see him in the backline alongside the likes of Dominic Iorfa. Even a parody account of Dejphon Chansiri, the club’s owner, called for Borner to be playing from the first whistle.

Here are just some of their reactions…

Sheffield Wednesday fans, do you think Monk should be starting Borner from the beginning more often? Let us know!
