Sheffield Wednesday: Journalist hails Dominic Iorfa vs MK Dons

Journalist Alex Miller has hailed the character that Sheffield Wednesday centre-back Dominic Iorfa showed in his side’s 5-2 win at home to MK Dons.

The Lowdown: Superb win for Owls

The Owls faced another big League One game on Saturday afternoon, with Darren Moore’s side hosting a struggling Dons team at Hillsborough.

The visitors found themselves 2-1 up at half-time, in what looked like a damaging day in the promotion battle, only for Wednesday to roar back in the second half and win 5-2.

The performance was night and day in either half, with Iorfa one of many who struggled before the break, looking shaky at the heart of the defence but improving immeasurably after the restart.

The Latest: Iorfa praised by Miller

Taking to Twitter after the game, Miller lauded the defender’s improvement, hailing his character in the process:

“A word on Dom Iorfa, who came in for a lot of stick first half. Not a game he’ll want to remember from a personal point of view, but under the spotlight he was much improved in the second half both defensively and in possession. That took huge bottle.”

The Verdict: Sums up team’s character

Miller is spot on in his assessment of Iorfa, with the player once hailed as a ‘man mountain’ by Barry Bannan so much better in a relentless second half at Hillsborough.

He made five clearances and won three out of five aerial duels overall, according to Sofascore, as well as enjoying a highly impressive 91% pass completion rate.

Iorfa’s show of character sums up this Wednesday team as a whole this season, with Moore’s men never down and out, not losing in the league for 19 matches now, remaining unbeaten since October.

In the past, the Owls would simply have crumbled and not responded after half-time, but this team is made of different stuff and they look hot favourites to be champions at the end of the season, having returned to the top of League One with a game in hand.
