Sheffield Wednesday: Dom Howson provides Ben Heneghen injury update

Stadium MK, Milton Keynes, Britain - April 16, 2022. Sheffield Wednesday's manager Darren Moore.

Sheffield Wednesday centre-back Ben Heneghen is making positive progress in his recovery from injury, according to reliable journalist Dom Howson.

The Lowdown: Heneghen out injured

The Owls signed the 28-year-old from AFC Wimbledon in the summer transfer window and was seen as a key defensive addition for Darren Moore.

Frustratingly, Heneghen has only made four appearances in League One so far this season, with an injury keeping him out since the 3-0 win over Rochdale last month.

It appears as though the defender could be nearing a return, though, following a fresh update from a reliable source.

The Latest: Howson gives positive injury update

Taking to Twitter, Howson claimed that Heneghen is ‘back jogging’ but is expected to miss the upcoming league games against Morecambe and Ipswich Town.

He tweeted: “Here is an injury update on Ben Heneghan and how Wednesday’s plans have changed over the weekend following the Plymouth postponement.”

The reporter’s tweet included a link to a corresponding Yorkshire Live report in which he stated that the 28-year-old’s rehabilitation is going according to plan, with the defender back jogging this week as his recovery remains on track.

The Verdict: Big boost for Wednesday

This is an undoubted boost for Sheffield Wednesday, with Heneghen impressing at the heart of their defence in their first few games of the season and looking like a strong signing.

He has already won a monstrous 5.3 aerial duels and made 5.3 clearances and 2.3 interceptions per game in League One this term, highlighting how dominant a performer he has been. These figures unsurprisingly see him rank first for each metric in Darren Moore’s squad so far in 2022/23.

The Owls have got by without Heneghen, sitting fourth in the table, but his return in the near future should make their promotion push even more formidable.
