Sheffield Wednesday: Dominic Iorfa could miss Cambridge clash

Sheffield Wednesday centre-back Dominic Iorfa could miss his side’s League One meeting with Cambridge United, as shared by journalist Alex Miller.

The Lowdown: Owls head to Cambridge

Darren Moore’s side are back in action on Saturday afternoon, as they look to continue their good recent form in their promotion push.

The Owls make the trip to a Cambridge side currently sitting 14th in the division, so there is no doubt that the third-place visitors are the favourites to prevail.

On the eve of the game, however, an injury concern has arisen for Wednesday.

The Latest: Irofa could miss out

Taking to Twitter, The Sheffield Star‘s Miller shared manager Moore’s information that Iorfa picked up a knock in training on Friday, with a late call set to be made regarding his involvement:

“One fresh injury concern for Wednesday [Iorfa] – it’s nothing serious – but George Byers and Mallik Wilks are back in training and are in contention for tomorrow’s trip to Cambridge United.”

The Verdict: Would it be a blow?

In truth, Iorfa hasn’t been as much of a key figure for Wednesday so far this season, only starting five league games and arguably being to blame for a couple of goals against Portsmouth on the opening weekend.

Michael Ihiekwe and Ben Heneghan have made the centre-back spots their own of late, meaning the 27-year-old will have to work hard to get his place back.

That being said, Iorfa is still an important squad player and it would be better to have him available against Cambridge – Barry Bannan has called him ‘unbelievable’ – so the hope is that he will pass a late fitness test.
