Sheffield Wednesday: Reece James could return against Morecambe

General view inside Hillsborough ahead of Sheffield Wednesday v Wigan Athletic

Sheffield Wednesday defender Reece James could return from injury against Morecambe, Joe Crann reports.

The Lowdown: October absence

James was starting to solidify his place in Darren Moore’s side before suffering an injury against Plymouth Argyle last month, turning out mainly as a centre-back.

The 28-year-old was on the receiving end of a heavy challenge and has since missed the last five League One fixtures. It seems as if a return is on the horizon, though, with the Owls preparing for FA Cup action at Hillsborough.

The Latest: Injury update

Crann shared a story for The Star on Monday lunchtime ahead of the FA Cup clash with Morecambe on Friday.

He relayed comments from Moore, stating that he could return to the squad, labelling his availability as ‘touch and go’.

The Verdict: More good news

Barry Bannan looks set to be fine to feature against Morecambe after being substituted as a precautionary measure at the weekend, so this update on James is more good news for the Owls.

The FA Cup meeting could be the ideal chance to get James back up to speed, with the Owls’ main priority being promotion from the third tier.

Moore will want to progress into the second round, of course, but squad rotation may also be on his mind heading into a busy few months, with a trip to Southampton in the EFL Cup following the meeting with Morecambe.
