Southampton fell to their third consecutive Premier League defeat on Sunday afternoon, losing 4-1 to Chelsea at St Mary’s.
Despite a promising start, the hosts were pegged back by two quick-fire goals from Tammy Abraham and Mason Mount, before Danny Ings provided a glimmer of hope for Ralph Hasenhuttl’s side with an equaliser on the half-hour mark.
N’Golo Kante’s deflected effort deflated said hope, however, as the scoreboard read 3-1 at half-time. Michy Batshuayi’s late effort rubbed salt in Southampton’s wounds and ensured the south coast outfit slipped to within touching distance of the bottom-three, above 18th-placed Everton on goal difference alone.
Plenty of things need to improve for Saints if they’re to get themselves out of the rut they currently find themselves in.
Club captain Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg said after the match that the team are working hard to improve that they are “better than where we [they] are at the moment”. (via @SouthamptonFC)
Here’s how some less than impressed Saints fans responded to those comments on Twitter…

Things can’t get much worse! It’s been both shocking and predictable our rapid decline in recent years

Shouldn’t they have been doing this before the season started?

Oh cmon you are a premier league club start playing like one or go and wilter away in the lower leagues.
You train day after day and still lack defensive capabilities and day after day say we will work harder.
Get another defensive coach !! We are sick of the excuses— Mark Andrews (@MarkAnd76716189) October 7, 2019
