According to Gianluca di Marzio, Southampton are interested in signing Mattias Svanberg from Serie A outfit Bologna.
Saints eye Svanberg
Southampton are reportedly in the market for the £5.85m-valued 22-year-old, who moved to his current outfit from Malmo in 2018.
The Saints are not the only side interested in the midfielder though, with Leicester City and AC Milan also mentioned. While a January move is targeted, any deal is more likely to be a summer transfer.
Svanberg has been an important player for his club so far this campaign, appearing in 15 of their 17 matches in the Italian top flight. He has scored twice and provided one assist as Bologna lie 13th in the table.
It is perhaps his versatility that would be the most valuable to Ralph Hasenhuttl. Throughout his career, Svanberg has played in central midfield, defensive midfield, attacking midfield, left midfield, right midfield, and even at full-back. He could, therefore, provide a number of options for the south-coast side.
Would you like to sign Svanberg?
Milan, with European football and a bigger chances of winning trophies, as well as having Svanberg’s compatriot and Sweden legend Zlatan Ibrahimovic amongst their ranks, may be the favourites to secure his signature. Still, nothing is signed yet, and he could still be on his way to the Premier League in the future, perhaps to Southampton.
In other news, Southampton fans laud this former player.
