Southampton will reportedly not sell Danny Ings even if he does not sign a new contract at St. Mary’s Stadium, according to Hampshire Live.

The England international currently has another year left on his deal after the end of this current campaign. The Saints, though, are looking to get their star striker tied down to another deal.

However, even if he does not sign a new contract at the club, Southampton will not sell him and will instead let him run down his contract.
Surprising
Ings, of course, is hugely important to Ralph Hasenhuttl and co. Called “outstanding” by Eddie Howe last term, Ings scored 22 goals in 38 games in the Premier League in the previous campaign, and he already has five strikes in seven matches so far this term in the league as well.

Currently valued at £18m (Transfermarkt), Ings is easily one of Southampton’s most valuable assets. Whilst his ability is vital to the team, it would be an error of judgement to eventually allow him to leave on a free transfer when he would be in his prime. If the likes of Ollie Watkins – with all due respect – can command fees of £28m without ever having played a minute of top-tier football, then how much could Ings garner?
