“You can’t teach an old dog new tricks” was slurred to me by one punter as soon as I entered the Football Transfer Tavern for the start of my shift.
I could only imagine he was referring to Manchester United manager David Moyes because, at the moment, it is all the customers talk about. It is tiresome.
Sometimes I just wish, when I arrive, that a punter – who isn’t well over the limit – would go to me: “Cracking result for Kidderminster Harriers in the FA Cup, last night.”
*sigh*
Anyway, once I’d dropped off my bits and pieces in the tavern staff room, I returned to the bar to find half the tavern had filtered out.
A bloke, who hasn’t said a word in the three years he has been coming to the tavern, just pointed across the road to a cluster of my customers laughing outside a charity shop.
The Red Devils can’t catch a break.
