The punters in the Football Transfer Tavern – and this may surprise you – are a moral bunch.
In amongst the blue language, alcoholism and lack of personal hygiene they are a loveable bunch that knows right from wrong.
So, when Adnan Januzaj went down – shall we say – rather theatrically(?) despite West Ham United’s James Collins not touching the future English/Albanian/Belgian/Kosovan superstar, the customers were incensed.
Even the Manchester United supporting regulars were embarrassed and outraged by Januzaj’s actions, with one screaming that David Moyes should’ve taken the 18-year-old straight off and never played him again.
Personally, I have no problem with diving but I’m paid to pour the drinks, not to voice my opinions.
I once applauded Ashley Young’s intelligence to win a penalty against Queens Park Rangers but that resulted in a Shaun Derry ‘hipster’ throwing a pint over me.
Thinking about it, maybe Ashley Young is Januzaj’s footballing hero…
