Come 3pm on a Saturday, the Football Transfer Tavern is full of punters with a pint in one hand and a betting slip in the other.
I do enjoy the odd bet now and then, but just the ones where you put a quid on and have no chance of winning the potential £988382843838.
We sometimes have a little sweepstake in the tavern, nothing major, just a fiver on something like the first goal scorer.
The most recent game we had a little in-house flutter on was Manchester United’s 1-0 win over Arsenal.
I actually had Wayne Rooney to score first but didn’t mind losing the fiver as I had won a few pennies on the ol’ fruit machines earlier in the day.
One bloke in tavern though, was inconsolable at full-time; he had put his weekly wage on an Arsenal victory – god knows why – which meant he’d be living off super noodles all week.
I did manage to cheer this punter up by showing him this.
Remember, there’s always someone worse off than you.
