Some believe the loss of Sir Alex Ferguson has had a greater impact on Manchester United than anybody could have imagined.
There are others however, who believe there was another loss at Old Trafford which may have had an even bigger impact.
And that is the loss of Howard Webb.
The so called ‘best referee in the country, the world, and the universe’ was in charge for Manchester United v Tottenham yesterday – a fixture in which he awarded Manchester United a crucial and favourable penalty in 2009 that would go on to have a major impact on the title race.
Those were the good old days for Manchester United, when Webb was at his very best.
But the departure of Fergie in the summer, means Webb has also moved on – especially judging by his inexplicable failure to award Manchester United a late penalty yesterday.
Rumours are rife that Webb has been having an affair since the departure of Fergie, most likely with Jose Mourinho in West London, judging by his favourable treatment of Samuel Eto’o on Sunday.
