‘Such a gentleman’ - Liverpool fans on Twitter react to footage of star from last night

The Liverpool fans in the Transfer Tavern have been reacting to a video of Sadio Mane at the end of the club’s 2-1 win over Manchester City yesterday. The fans and players were all equally as delighted having overcome Pep Guardiola’s side 5-1 on aggregate after being labelled as the underdog going into the tie. In particular, though, Liverpool’s Senegalese winger looked absolutely delighted.

The Reds propping up our bar will remember this Champions League tie for a long time. Jurgen Klopp, after being given little chance by the media and pundits, pulled off a tactical masterclass against Guardiola’s City and dumped them out of Europe comfortably in the end. Liverpool’s nerves were shaking early after City came out of the blocks quickly, scoring inside two minutes through Gabriel Jesus and looking in control. The Sky Blues should’ve had a second through Leroy Sane on the stroke of half-time although it was disallowed for offside, despite the final ball coming off of Liverpool’s James Milner.

After weathering the first-half storm, Liverpool came out looking less shaky and when Mo Salah equalised on the night to restore the Kopites three-goal buffer, Klopp’s side never looked back. It turned out to be the evening of the underdogs as some 1400 miles away Roma dumped Barcelona out of the Champions League winning 3-0 on the night and advancing 4-4 on away goals. Liverpool will now be hoping they can draw Roma in the last four in Friday’s draw as they look forward to the next game in their European adventure.
