Sunderland podcaster Philip West hailed the performance of Abdoullah Ba as they beat Huddersfield Town 2-0 in the Championship on Wednesday night.

The Lowdown: Much-needed win

The Wearsiders' win was their first in four games in the Championship and was much-needed in order to get themselves back on track.

Alex Pritchard put the Black Cats in front against his former club early in the second half, before Manchester United loanee Amad Diallo sealed the victory in stoppage time.

The Latest: Ba praised

Taking to Twitter, West praised the cameo from 19-year-old Ba in the second half as he came on for Ellio Embleton just after the hour mark.

The Sunderland podcaster said: "Abdoullah Ba has something very exciting about him. Composure on the ball, really good range of passing, and energy to burn. I really do think we’ve got a cracking talent on our hands."

The Verdict: First start soon?

Having arrived in the summer transfer window, Ba has now made seven senior appearances in the Championship for Tony Mowbray's side, but he has not featured in the starting line-up yet.

In the second half against the Terriers, he helped to see out the game, winning three of his duels and recording two tackles, one clearance and an 84% pass accuracy, among the highest of his team-mates despite not playing the whole match (SofaScore).

Ba looks to be a shrewd signing for the Black Cats, and at just 19 years of age, the midfielder is likely to further improve and could eventually force himself into the starting XI.
