Sunderland’s shock 1-0 victory over Sheffield United in the Carabao Cup gave Black Cats fans a moment to savour. After Max Power’s goal in the ninth minute, they managed to hold on to the lead and secure their place in the next round, and goalkeeper Lee Burge played a huge part in that with a clean sheet.
The 26-year-old joined the League One side on a free transfer from Coventry City in the summer and has taken the role of second-choice ‘keeper. He’s only conceded two goals in his three games for the club, which have all come in the Carabao Cup, and last night he proved he’s capable of challenging for a first-team spot.
The Englishman posted a picture of himself celebrating the victory on Twitter, as the Sunderland faithful flocked to congratulate him on the performance, with some even tipping him for the number one spot in future.
