Sunderland ‘interested’ in signing “top-level” Barcelona youngster

Sunderland enjoyed a remarkable 2025/26 campaign after returning to the Premier League, exceeding expectations by finishing seventh and securing qualification for next season’s Europa League.

With European football now on the horizon, the Black Cats are expected to strengthen their squad to cope with the demands of competing on multiple fronts.

Regis Le Bris is keen to add more quality and depth, and it appears the club has identified an exciting young talent capable of taking them to the next level.

Sunderland Interested In Bardghji

According to Sport, per Sports Witness, Sunderland are among several clubs monitoring the situation of Barcelona winger Roony Bardghji, who has been described as “top level” by Sweden teammate Alexander Isak.

The 20-year-old only joined Barcelona from FC Copenhagen last summer but is already considering his future after finding first-team opportunities limited behind Lamine Yamal.

Bardghji featured 28 times in all competitions last season, scoring twice and providing four assists, but is understood to have informed Barcelona that he wants to leave in search of regular football.

The report claims Sunderland have made an approach to enquire about the Sweden international, with Leeds United, Brighton & Hove Albion, Aston Villa and Fulham also showing interest. European clubs including Juventus, Marseille, Ajax and Porto are also keeping tabs on his situation.

Barcelona are reportedly open to either a loan move or a permanent sale with a buy-back clause, allowing the Catalan giants to retain long-term control over one of Sweden’s brightest young prospects.

Sunderland will hope they can win the race should Bardghji decide the Premier League is the right next step in his development.
