Jack Diamond has revealed his desire to make an impact at Sunderland after returning from his loan spell at Harrogate Town.
The 20-year-old forward scored Harrogate’s third goal on Sunday afternoon as they sealed promotion to the Football League, beating Notts County 3-1 at Wembley.
The youngster forced his way into Simon Weaver’s plans with the newly-promoted League Two side and became a regular having moved to the north Yorkshire club on loan last summer.
After returning to his parent club Sunderland, it was reported by Northern Echo that the Black Cats were willing to hand him a shot in the first team.
Following that report, Diamond sat down with the Sunderland Echo to discuss his ambitions moving forward with the Wearsiders.
“I want to be back at Sunderland as quickly as possible,” he said.
“The gaffer hasn’t seen me in training with him yet and I want to go in there and make an impression as soon as I can.
“After Sunday, my focus turns to trying to get into the Sunderland first-team.”
The versatile attacker is now expected to have a short break before taking part in Sunderland’s pre-season training schedule.
During his time with Harrogate, Diamond netted four goals in 30 appearances on the route to their historic promotion.
There seems no reason why Diamond would not be handed a fair enough chance by Phil Parkinson at Sunderland next season.
The youngster will be chomping at the bit to get a place in the Black Cats team and will undoubtedly want to impress. He also heads into the new season buoyed by helping Harrogate Town into League Two, just one rung beneath his parent club in the English football ladder.
