Many Sunderland fans have been sent wild on Twitter, after news broke that ex-fan favourite Vito Mannone has opened talks with the Black Cats over a return to the Stadium of Light [Roker Report].

Currently with Ligue 1 outfit Monaco, the 33-year-old has been nothing more than a bit part player in recent times, completing just nine outings last campaign [Transfermarkt].

Now, he could make a surprise return to Wearside, perhaps with a view to earn himself more consistent playing time.

The Italian has begun discussions with Sunderland, and is rumoured to be keen on the move as the close of the transfer window draws ever-nearer [Roker Report].

Holding a strong rapport with the Black Cats support, it is no wonder loads of Sunderland diehards took to social media to have their say on the latest news.
