Our Arsenal fans here in the Transfer Tavern are hoping that Arsene Wenger will rule the roost this summer in an iron-fisted fashion, by throwing out some deadwood at the Emirates. Hopeful, rather than expectant obviously.

The Gunners have long needed a full clear out and a bit of ruthlessness in the squad as far too many players have been simmering at the Emirates for too long. The proof is in the pudding in terms of trophies over the years and, with the recent transfer exit of Alexis Sanchez, the north London giants really do need to start putting their foot down.

Wenger has for a long time been a successful coach, however, in recent years the need to be challenging for more than the top-four as come to the forefront of many of the fans needs. Le Prof might just have one last big push in him, though he needs the right players around him.

With that in mind, our landlord takes a look at TWO players who need to leave in the summer in order to allow fresh and hungry blood to come into the squad…

Petr Cech

The 35-year-old keeper has had a good innings in the Premier League, picking up many trophies and titles at Chelsea, followed by FA Cup victories with the Gunners.

However, this season has seen the Czech Republic legend showing signs of his age, sad as it is to say. Indeed, he’s a lot more prone to mistakes that are costing the Gunners games. Many of the fans inside the Tavern are calling for Cech to be dropped in place of David Ospina, which is a statement in itself.

Danny Welbeck

The former Man United youngster is never going to fulfil his true potential as a player at this level, that much is obvious. He has been coasting for years and the move to Arsenal surprised many, including our main barman, though the fact he’s still there is even more of one.

Although Welbeck is a useful squad player, that’s basically it for him. He doesn’t bring anything to the side on a regular enough basis to warrant him being a first choice pick and, as a striker his contribution to goals is poor. A summer move may be best all around for the English striker.
