José Mourinho and Manchester United might have been given the ideal opportunity to boost their attacking options and find a possible replacement for the misfit Alexis Sanchez.
According to the Guardian, West Ham United forward Marko Arnautovic has left the door open for a possible move away from the East London club, admitting that he is at the perfect age to compete with the best there is.
The Austrian has been a fan favourite amongst the Hammers supporters since making the move from Stoke City last year and has been a key figure in the team with his excellent goal-scoring abilities. So much so that the Red Devils considered offering him a deal at Old Trafford in the summer, but decided against it due to the high amount of attackers already at the club.
But with Romelu Lukaku disappointing this season and Sanchez being linked with a move away from the Premier League, Ed Woodward and Mourinho could string a plan together to lure Arnautovic to the 20-time English champions in order to get the team firing again.
Apart from Anthony Martial, United haven’t had any player posing a real threat in front of goal and the addition of Arnautovic could come at the right time of the 29-year-old’s career as well. The West Ham striker leads the line of the team that tore Mourinho’s men apart at the London Stadium in September, scoring the final goal in a 3-1 thumping.
Arnautovic’s brother, Danijel Arnautovic, also emphasised in the report, by speaking to Kurier (via the Guardian) newspaper, that the player is ready to take the next big step in his career and wants to perform at the highest level.
‘He’s a big part of West Ham’s team but I think it’s possible to tease out more of him. For that to happen, he has to play for a top team. Marko is ready for the next step. A player like him should not play against relegation. He should play for the international spots,’ said Danijel who is also Marko’s agent.
If a deal is agreed with Arnautovic then United would certainly have a lot more firepower up-front in a player that is strong on and off the ball and could be an excellent link up with Lukaku that could possibly spark the Belgian back to form.
