Our Manchester United fans here in the Transfer Tavern are wondering what has happened to their prodigal son Paul Pogba in recent months, ever since the Spurs defeat – he’s looked like a shadow of his former self.

The Frenchman has been back at Old Trafford for his second stint at the club for well over 18 months now, and many of our United fans in the bar still feel like he’s not reached the heights he did at Juventus.

This could be down to a lot of different things, Jose Mourinho has opted to use Pogba as a deep-lying playmaker alongside Nemanja Matic, a role in which he so clearly struggles in. Many in the bar think that by giving Pogba defensive duties, it holds him back from what he can bring to the team in terms of going forward.

With all that being said in recent months, the unhappiness and lack of form are going hand-in-hand as he’s been hauled off and dropped and the rumour mill is certainly in full flow. With reports of the Frenchman being used as bait for bigger players incoming in the summer, things are bound to be interesting over the next few months.

Our landlord feels like it could already be time for Pogba to move for a second time, if he is still unhappy at the end of the season, and there are TWO players that Mourinho should look to follow him…

Sergio Romero

The excellent backup keeper has been a brilliant servant to the Red Devils, despite largely playing second fiddle to undoubtedly the best in the world on current form. With that in mind, it’s only a matter of time before the Argentine number one will have the thirst for regular first-team minutes, as playing in the odd cup game, should United be in them, surely won’t be enough.

It’ll be hard to replace Romero, who is such a good keeper but his ambitions may lead him out of the Old Trafford door.

Daley Blind

The Dutchman is currently out injured, which may mean the end of his United career as Mourinho seems to have settled on a starting eleven in recent times. Blind was another one of Louis van Gaal’s signings and many in the bar remember him being the possible long-term replacement for Micheal Carrick in the centre of the park when he arrived, although he hasn’t kicked on as first hoped.

Indeed, he hasn’t kicked on from there and is now seen as more of a utility man in and around the back four.
