Our Manchester United fans here in the Transfer Tavern are hoping for some new faces in the door come summertime and the addition of a class defender is a high priority after the recent performances of Chris Smalling and Phil Jones.
Toby Alderweireld is looking likely to leave Spurs soon as he is struggling to regain his first-team place in the team alongside tough contract talks. Jose Mourinho desperately needs a centre-back to play alongside Eric Bailly next season, with the current crop not pulling the socks up enough to warrant a regular spot, so a move for the Belgian would make total sense.
If the Red Devils are to inch closer to Man City next season, then a few additions to the squad is simply a must for Mourinho. With the arrival of Alexis Sanchez in the winter, many in the bar feel that the main focus should now be on the back line and trying to balance up the team.

Arturo Vidal
The Chilean is looking like he will be on the receiving end of Bayern Munich’s reshaping of the squad as they surely look to bring the average age down and replace ageing squad players in a bid to revitalise the German club.
Mourinho needs a box-to-box player and, at 30 Vidal, still has some petrol left in the tank for a backup squad player. Our fans in the pool room suggest that Vidal could take over the Micheal Carrick role for the youngsters and bring that experience in the team as United look to regain the Premier League title after many years in exile.
Christian Pulisic
The young American is currently playing for Vidal’s rivals Borussia Dortmund and is surely on many of the top clubs in Europe watch list after an absolutely meteoric rise in recent years.
Not only is the winger a talent and would bring a little balance to the tea, he’s a dream for the board in their attempts to greater promote the United brand across the United States of America, such is his standing in his home country. Pulisic is young and hungry, indeed, with United’s front line being just that, he could fit right in.
