Spurs were hoping to assert their dominance on yet another one of Europe’s giants on Wednesday night, but failed to hold onto their lead in a match that saw two second-half goals send Tottenham crashing out of the Champions League. Indeed, it was a night to forget for our local residents here in the Tavern, as many are struggling to get over what they witnessed.
Although, Wednesday night’s exit from the European competition could cause for Spurs to face even more consequences, with some of their star players possibly even looking to take up opportunities elsewhere as they go on in search of silverware. Sadly, Spurs just weren’t able to produce the goods when they needed to, as there’s now added pressure on the London club to secure a top-four spot this season.

Toby Alderweireld
The Belgian has established himself as one of the best central defenders in world football, after a number of successful seasons with the London club.
Indeed, Toby Alderweireld has come to Spurs’ rescue on numerous occasions throughout his time in North London, as he continues to lead by example with performances of the highest order at the heart of Tottenham’s defence.
However, the recent exit from the Champions League could see Alderweireld push for a move elsewhere, with his future already looking less than certain as a stall in contract talks has the club willing to sell in the summer.
Harry Kane
Harry Kane enjoyed his best calendar year in North London during 2017 after breaking Alan Shearer’s calendar goal record, and finishing as Europe’s top scorer after pipping Lionel Messi to score 56 goals.
Indeed, there’s no doubt that Tottenham would struggle without the major contributions that the Englishman has made this season, having produced seven goals over the course of their Champions League campaign.
However, with Spurs having no further part to play in this year’s European competition, this could see the England international look for a move in the summer months, after attracting a heap of interest from Champions League experts Real Madrid.
