Jose Mourinho seems disgruntled as boss of Manchester United, perhaps Woodward could improve the morale of the Portuguese boss with a couple of ideal Jose signings before deadline day.
After failing to win silverware last season, the mercurial Mourinho has seemed downbeat in charge of the Old Trafford outfit. Last season, the boss labelled young players as ‘brats’ and bemoaned the lack of maturity in the modern footballer. He has continued with his downbeat mannerisms and demeanour in his press conferences in pre-season. United fans may be a little worried heading into the next campaign.
Manchester United had got used to trophy-laden season after trophy-laden season under the leadership of the legendary Sir Alex Ferguson, who well and truly made the position of United boss his own. There is most certainly pressure to win trophies at the club, and that may build on Mourinho if he has a poor start and falls further behind cross-city rivals, oil-rich Manchester City.
With that in mind, surely Woodward can’t fail to sign these two ideal Mourinho fits before deadline day…
Willian is a player Mourinho has worked with before and has the experience the self-proclaimed ‘Special One’ likes to see in a new signing.
The experienced Chelsea winger would be perfect for Jose’s Manchester United. He is a creative talent who would add a new element to the Manchester United attack. His set-piece ability would also be beneficial to United, and Romelu Lukaku would benefit from his ability to deliver a pinpoint cross.
The Brazilian international is valued at £34.2m by Transfermarkt.
If Woodward can secure the player, it may lift the spirits of the deflated Mourinho.
Centre-back is an area the Red Devils could certainly improve in. Since the days Nemanja Vidic and Rio Ferdinand patrolling the United defence, the Old Trafford outfit have lacked a star presence at the back.
Toby Alderweireld has been a key figure in the Tottenham side for many seasons, overseeing a successful spell at the club. Alongside Jan Vertonghen, Alderweireld has formed one of the most solid centre-back partnerships the Premier League in recent seasons.
If Spurs don’t sell Alderweireld, they risk losing the player on a free.
Mourinho would surely love to work with a centre-back the quality of Alderweireld.
