After Rafael Benitez’s departure from Liverpool, the names trying to muscle their way into the one of the most coveted manager’s seats in Europe is growing by the day. One to recently declare their interest is none other than the former England manager Sven Goran Eriksson. It is time for those interested in the job to put their cards on the table, unfortunately for Eriksson he’s played the oldest trick in the book.
Following in the footsteps of Jermaine Pennant and Robbie Keane, the Swede has openly declared his love and support for Liverpool since he was a young boy, and his “dream” to be able to manage the club. Do we believe him though?
Many believed Robbie Keane until his arrival at Celtic where he went on to declare his love for them in his first press conference. Needs must I suppose…
Jermaine Pennant didn’t exactly play like he was representing his boyhood team either. Then again when has he ever appeared to be making an effort..?
The declaration by Eriksson is certainly plausible. As one of the biggest clubs in Europe, Liverpool have earned millions of supporters across the world. In Eriksson’s younger days, the Reds were also certainly a team on the rise, under the legendary Bill Shankly.
At this time however, Eriksson’s comments hint at desperation from a manager who is out of work after the World Cup and with a desire to be back in England and the Premier League after his disappointments at Manchester City. As he was quick to point out, “the Premier League is the best league in the world so everybody wants to be a manager in the Premier League.”. What better way to try and push yourself ahead of your rivals than declare your support for the club?
Eriksson has said he never previously spoke of his club football allegiances due to his commitments with the England national team. This can certainly be understood. But Eriksson left his role as England manager four years ago didn’t he…why has he not mentioned his loyalties before now I wonder…?
Eriksson would be best advised to concentrate on the World Cup, and his team the Ivory Coast, who have the quality to complete a good tournament should their key players remain fit. With his contract due to expire after the summer though, I suppose what has Eriksson got to lose? Worth a try..
The dream looks like having to be put on hold though. Thumbs up for the effort.

He has spoken many times on the record a decade or more ago that he is a Liverpool fan and visited the bootroom when Benfica coach.
Ericson was a frequent vistor to liverpool in the paisley years mate were he done coaching at melwood and he has mentioned this in several interviews not that i want him to manage liverpool but why are you so suspicous of some one that comes out and reveals his love for our club mate if there fake then they will be found out as for keane what would you do if you had been treated the way he did by rafa as pennant was when he got a game . the bigger the profiled manager saying they want the liverpool manager’s job the better the applicants will be and can i just say i would rather have ericson than hodgson or oneil any day
as ste says, he has mentioned his love for LFC before.
In answer to comments, mate! Where has Eriksson proved himself? if Keane was good enough he would never have been shifted from club to club the way he has been! Benitez ‘Did Not Sign’him!Where is he now? Pennant was and is a ‘plonker’.What is he doing now??? HODGSON is way in front of M’ONeill(another plonker) & Eriksson.
