Morgan Whittaker in action for Swansea
Transfer expert Dean Jones says that Glasgow Rangers will try and push again to bring Morgan Whittaker to Ibrox.
The Lowdown: Two bids rejected
Rangers have reportedly already had two bids rejected for Whittaker, the latest being worth £1.5m.
Having already signed Todd Cantwell, and looking to wrap up a deal for Nicolas Raskin, the Gers could now turn their attention back to Whitaker, with less than a week of the transfer window remaining.
The Latest: Gers will ‘push’
Speaking to GiveMeSport, Jones says that Michael Beale’s side will try and ‘push’ again for Whittaker, as a move to Ibrox is a ‘huge opportunity’ for the Swansea City winger:
“This would be a huge opportunity for him, and I think on the basis of that alone, you would say there’s a chance. But also, I think that Rangers are still going to give it another push.”
The Verdict: Get it done
Rangers find themselves nine points behind bitter rivals Celtic in the Scottish Premiership table, and in order to help close that gap, they will need to bolster their squad in this window.
The arrival of Cantwell is a positive one, but adding Whittaker into the mix would really strengthen Beale’s attacking options.
Hailed as a ‘top player‘ by performance manager Justin Walker when he was in the academy at Derby County, Whittaker scored an amazing 43 goals and made a further 21 assists at youth level with the Rams, and also went on to make 32 appearances for the senior team (Transfermarkt).
He has also enjoyed successful loan spells at Lincoln City and Plymouth Argyle on loan from Swansea, scoring five times and making one assist in League One for the former, and managing nine goals and seven assists in the first half of this campaign with the latter (Transfermarkt).
Argyle reporter Chris Errington lauded Whittaker’s ‘superb‘ performances while on loan there, and so the 22-year-old is in perfect form to make an instant impact at the Light Blues, should he make the move.
