It’s been a busy week for Southampton in the transfer market both in terms of arrivals and departures.
Dusan Tadic was recently confirmed as an Ajax player after a four-year spell with the Saints, while midfielder Stuart Armstrong has moved in the opposite direction to the Serbian and arrived at St. Mary’s from Celtic in a £7m deal, as reported by BBC Sport.
And now, on top of Tadic’s exit and the recruitment of Armstrong, Mohamed Elyounoussi has joined Southampton after the club agreed a £16m fee (via Sky Sports) with Basel for the Norway international.
£8m-rated (via Transfermarkt) Elyounoussi comes in as a replacement for Tadic, who was perhaps the most prominent forward manager Mark Hughes had at his disposal.
Losing the Serbia international will come as a blow and adds to a recurring theme of Southampton selling their best players. The likes of Virgil van Dijk, Sadio Mane and Adam Lallana have all been sold for big money in recent transfer windows, and last season’s relegation scare has shown that constant sells of star assets may finally be catching up with the club.
Nevertheless, regardless of Tadic’s exit, the signing of Elyounoussi is an exciting one.
Take a look at what Southampton supporters had to say on their club’s new signing below…

Very excited by the signing of Elyounoussi, could be the pacey winger we’ve been missing since Mane left! The future is bright in red and white! #saintsfc
