It’s been a trophy-less few years since the League Cup win in the 2011–12 season and for Reds fans, patience is wearing thin.
Everyone’s favourite manager Jurgen Klopp has added healthily this summer and has built the squad he wants for the upcoming season, and optimism is sweeping amongst the Liverpool fans here in the Football Transfer Tavern.
Despite a start that has seen a win, a draw and a defeat, hopes are high and the future is looking bright at Anfield.
And with expectations high and things looking pretty rosy – our landlord wanted to have a look at some of the other things that Liverpool have done well in recent years.
So with that in mind, TransferTavern author Hayden Atkins takes us through the 3 best things the Reds have done in the past three years…
Bringing in Jurgen Klopp
We’re going to start with an extremely recent appointment, and that was Liverpool’s decision to bring in former Dortmund manager Jurgen Klopp.
He’s a fantastic manager to have in the Premier League, but for all his humour and wit – there’s an extremely serious side to the German, and he wants to win and bring success back to Liverpool.
He’s passionate, and this summer he’s had the chance to build the team he wants.
His trial period is over and it’s definitely time to start looking at results on the pitch – but bringing him in has given the Liverpool faithful in the Football Transfer Tavern a renewed hope for the season ahead.
The 2011/2012 League Cup success
The 2011/2012 League Cup was won by Liverpool during Kenny Dalglish’s spell with the club, and for the Reds in the Tavern – it was absolutely massive.
Pre-season success aside, this was Liverpool’s first major trophy win since the 2005–06 season, and had they not beaten Cardiff City on penalties that day, it would now have been ten years in between silverware wins.
It might not have been the biggest crown or the biggest honour – but silverware is silverware and for the Reds in the Tavern, it was a welcome break to a stuttering league campaign.

Anfield’s expansion
Another more recent positive, we’re tipping the expansion of Anfield to really tip the odds in Liverpool’s favour over the coming years.
Off-the-pitch situations never seem to garner that much excitement but there is genuine optimism that the new 54,000 capacity Anfield can push success on the pitch.
The supporters in the Tavern are excited, and they’re set to take to the new, bigger Anfield for the first time against Leicester City this weekend.
The expansion has been years in the making and now it’s finally completed – everyone at the club will hope it can help push the team onto bigger and better things.
