The 3 Liverpool stars who should be at risk of the axe this summer

Liverpool pulled off a pretty comfortable 3-1 win over arch-rivals Everton this weekend and it was clear the result was of a great important to fans and manager Jurgen Klopp.

Their supporters here in the pub were absolutely delighted with the win over a pretty poor Everton side and it’s another result that keeps the pressure on their Champions League rivals in the league.

But going forward, even with the win under their belts, there’s some fans that think a handful of players in this current side aren’t good enough to take the team back to the very top.

Even the landlord, who is a massive Reds fan, believes there’s plenty of space for improvement in the club’s ranks this season and it’s clear that a big summer overhaul will be needed if the Reds are to seriously challenge for the title going forward.

So with that in mind, here’s the 3 Liverpool stars who might be at risk of the axe this summer, despite the win over Everton this weekend…

Emre Can

Emre Can just hasn’t been the same player this season and he’s been vastly overshadowed by the likes of Jordan Henderson this season.

The former Bundesliga man is more than capable of making it at this level but at times, he’s just not been good enough this campaign. He was crashing recklessly into tackles against Everton and despite the eventual 3-1 win, he was certainly one of the worst players on the pitch.

He’s certainly a man who fans here in the pub might want to see moved on at the end of the season.

Simon Mignolet

For sometime now, the Reds have been lacking a seriously revered goalkeeper who is up there with the world’s best between the sticks.

And the feeling amongst Liverpool fans right now is that Simon Mignolet certainly isn’t the man to be doing that going forward and they need someone better going forward.

Loris Karius is struggling to get games whilst Mignolet is still getting selected, despite his shakiness. He’s certainly one that could be moved on this summer.

Joel Matip

Joel Matip’s performances have certainly begun to improve over the past couple of months but he’s a defender that hasn’t filled Liverpool fans with that much confidence for the majority of this campaign.

He’s another former Bundesliga man who, at times, has struggled to cope with the pace and intensity of the Premier League and if Liverpool are to get into the Champions League come the end of the campaign, they’re going to need better than Matip and even Ragnar Klavan, who has himself been poor.

These are big times ahead for the Reds and they need as much quality in their ranks as possible, not liabilities who might punish them in the biggest of occasions.
