Celtic supporters in the Transfer Tavern are chomping at the bit this season! Beers in hand, it’s going to be a hectic campaign for the Hoops fans.
With another huge Champions League qualifying game on the horizon, you’d have been forgiven to have thought that Brendan Rodgers spell up in Scotland may have been a little easier than the time he spent at Liverpool.
But in-fact, it’s been quite the opposite. Expectations are high and the Hoops boss is expected to lead his side into the next round of the Champions League against Israeli side Hapoel Beer Sheva.
Domestic matters are also a big deal this season with Rangers back in the top-flight and there is a small matter of two Old Firm games to come in the next few months.
So with all that seriousness on the agenda, we want to have a little fun and strip it back a little: we’re talking five-a-side teams.
We all love them and their canny names but who would make Celtic’s dream five-a-side team?
GK – Craig Gordon
Gordon gets the nod ahead of new signing Dorus De Vries this time because of his Champions League experience and his knowledge of the Celtic side.
Whilst he had a tough spell at Sunderland, he has proved his quality once again in Scotland and remains a top keeper.
CB – Kolo Toure
Seasoned centre-back Kolo Toure gets in the defence because he’s an absolute legend here at the Football Transfer Tavern.
He has years of experience at the highest level and will be absolutely crucial to Celtic this season.
His lack of pace won’t be an issue on such a small pitch, so we can leave Kolo to worry about the crunching tackles.
Tours will give Celtic great experience at the back this season as they aim to dominate proceedings in the Scottish Premier league.
CM – Scott Brown
Every five-a-side team needs a captain and Scott Brown slots in quite nicely at the heart of the park in this side as well as on the senior pitch.
The pacy Scotsman is a tough-tackling workhorse and isn’t afraid of sticking the boot in – a trait that our seasoned Landlord rates very highly.
A top player.
CM – Scott Sinclair
The former Villa man is the star in this side and will provide support going forward with his blistering pace and dynamic runs.
Scott Sinclair looked a real talent as a youngster, and whilst his career has stalled somewhat recently; our Landlord is backing him for a quick return to form with Celtic.
We’d rather see the Swansea City Sinclair rather than the slightly disappointing Villa one of the past couple of seasons, so don’t let the boys down….
ST – Moussa Dembele
With no offsides in this game, there’s only one man capable of leading the line for our five-a-side outfit.
Moussa Dembele is frighteningly quick and can goal-hang if he needs to in order to get the essential last minute goal.
The punters here in the Football Transfer Tavern reckon he is one of the best youngsters in Europe at the minute; and he will no doubt play a starring role in this side going forward.
