Just when you thought the ‘Moyes effect’ might be wearing off, Ryan Giggs and his backroom staff ‘class of 92′, were brought back down to earth with a bump on Saturday, as Sunderland became the latest team to leave Old Trafford with three points.
It was a game that in many ways summed up United’s awful season, with the players once again failing to take any sort of responsibility, despite the fact Moyes is no longer there to blame.
The likes of Michael Carrick, Nani, Antonio Valencia, Javier Hernandez, Rafael, and Darren Fletcher, all looked devoid of ideas and quality – and despite Giggs’ insisting after the game that quality remains in the squad – it is obvious to see major rebuilding work needs to be done over the summer.
Whether that will also be in the dugout remains to be seen, with support growing for Giggs to be given the job on a permanent rather than interim basis.
His main rival for the managerial hotseat appears to be current Netherlands coach Louis Van Gaal, a man who has been there and done it with Ajax, Barcelona and Bayern Munich.
He is the box office name the board will be hoping can attract world class players next season, so with that in mind, we have taken a look at what we would consider the dream starting XI for Manchester United under Van Gaal next season.
