Manchester United fans are delighted with the squad Jose Mourinho has assembled so far.

Nemanja Matic is the latest to arrive at Old Trafford. A move for the Serb had appeared in doubt after the Red Devils sneakily signed Romelu Lukaku from under the noses of Chelsea. Yet the Blues later agreed to sell the central-midfielder following the addition of Monaco’s Tiemoue Bakayoko.

After a 2-1 defeat to Real Madrid in the UEFA Super Cup, Mourinho is now preparing his side for United’s opening league game of the season against West Ham.

The Portuguese boss has a number of big calls to make as to who will operate in the middle.

Michael Carrick has recently taken the captain’s armband, while Mourinho notoriously has a soft spot for Marouane Fellaini but who’s going play in midfield?

ANDER HERRERA

The Spaniard had a superb campaign last season which in turn earned him calls from the United fans to replace Wayne Rooney as captain.

Indeed, he was arguably United’s best player last season and he is surely going to play in the middle of the park thanks to his raw tenacity.

Herrera is an all round midfielder who is growing into a superstar at Old Trafford.

NEMANJA MATIC

The ex-Chelsea star has been signed to increase solidarity in the United backline and to give Paul Pogba a license to roam forward.

Matic could form a formidable partnership with Herrera this season and impressed against Real Madrid earlier this week. Chelsea may just regret selling him.

PAUL POGBA

The £89m man had a mediocre season after his world record return to Manchester. Pogba scored 5 and assisted 4 in the Premier League last season, but with Matic behind him, the Frenchman now has more freedom to join the attack.

Pogba will now be able to get in the box and get shots off at goal so he could just start paying back his price tag.

It’s exciting times for United fans.
