The potential starting Man Utd XI to face West Ham on the opening day of the season

Manchester United look set for a busy summer as they look to build a team capable of challenging for the Premier League, and the Red Devils fans here in the Transfer Tavern are feeling excited.

Jose Mourinho’s side finished a disappointing 6th place last season, but have made it back into the Champions League by virtue of winning the competition’s annoying little brother, the Europa.

With the recent addition of Swedish international Victor Lindelof reinforcing Mourinho’s already strong defensive unit, the United boss looks set to focus on strengthening his attacking options.

Last season’s top scorer Zlatan Ibrahimovic was released earlier in the month and the Old Trafford faithful are desperate to see big names come in.

The Red Devils have been linked with a number of top replacements for the No 9 spot, including Monaco ace Kylian Mbappe and Real Madrid striker Alvaro Morata.

The list of potential signings continues and we’ve debated just how they could fit in to the United starting XI for their first match with West Ham…..

GK: David De Gea

Thankfully for United fans, rumours of a David DeGea departure are quieting once more.

The United shot-stopper was voted goalkeeper of the 2016/17 season, and our landlord expects to see him start against the Hammers.

RB: Antonio Valencia

De Gea is likely to have a back four in front of him, consisting of Antonio Valencia at right back – the Ecuadorian was voted Man Utd’s player of the season.

CB: Eric Bailly

Eric Bailly had a very impressive debut season after his arrival from Villarreal.

The commanding centre-half will surely start against the Hammers on the opening day.

CB: Victor Lindelof

Manchester United’s new signing Victor Lindelof will surely line up alongside Bailly.

The new signing from Benfica has won 12 caps for Sweden, and the United fans here in the Tavern are buzzing to see the new man play.

LB: Marcos Rojo

Marcos Rojo is likely to battle Luke Shaw for a position on the left.

After Mourinho’s chastising of Shaw last season, expect Rojo to begin duties at left-back.

CDM: Nemanja Matic

Monaco defensive-midfielder Fabinho has been suggested to be the man to anchor the Mourinho’s midfield.

Though it’s Nemanja Matic who has been heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford.

The Serb is expected to complete the switch as soon as the Blues seal a deal for Tiemoue Bakayoko.

CDM: Ander Herrera

Ander Hererra’s tough tackling and high energy earned him the plaudits from the Old Trafford faithful last season.

United fans will be hoping for more of the same.

CAM: Paul Pogba

World record signing Paul Pogba is aiming for a much improved season after a steady start to his Old Trafford second-coming.

LW: Henrikh Mkhitaryan

Mourinho is likely to call upon Henrikh Mkhitaryan from the left.

It took the Armenian a while to be given an opportunity to shine, but shine he did.

RW: Marcus Rashford

Marcus Rashford could maintain a starting place from the right.

The Englishman will be aiming to hold down a regular place ahead of next summer’s World Cup.

ST: Alvaro Morata

At this stage, a deal for Kylian Mbappe appears far less likely than securing Real Madrid outcast Alvaro Morata.

The Spaniard is said to be keen on a move to Old Trafford, and our landlord thinks it will happen.
